Jessica Loveland, Head of New Writing at BBC:

‘Once you’ve spent a bit of time in Uncle Bonito’s gloriously bonkers head it’s hard to re-enter the real world. Mario Gregoriou’s films and characters are inspired, endlessly creative and full of ideas. It’s a surreal and hilarious pleasure to look at the world through Bonito’s eyes; if they sold Uncle Bonito glasses, I would definitely buy them!’

Simon Jones, Director and Founder of People Versus TV CIC:

‘Uncle Bonito’s Creative Epiphany was a stand-out at Fringe Flicks, where it went on to win our Audience Choice Award. Uncle Bonito is a visionary. His down to-earth approach to seeking deeper meaning in the universe left us all inspired and had the whole room hooked. He’s the kind of character that lingers with you long after the credits. A brilliantly original creation, brought to life with real warmth and wit.’

Holly Franklin, Program Coordinator Screen Yorkshire:

‘Bonito is part of a proud tradition of iconic comedy characters – he is totally distinct and surreal, but still full of heart and Northern charm. Bonito offers a totally fresh comedic voice that’s endearing, eccentric and wonderfully odd.’

Film Hub North: Young Programmers:

‘In this wacky and absurd comedy, Cypriot Yorkshire man Uncle Bonito walks us through his “Reight Trippy” creative epiphany. He shows us where he has dabbled in art, audio books and sketches of Patrick Swayze, taking us with him on his inherently Northern and funny artistic journey.

Uncle Bonito’s Creative Epiphany was programmed by the 2025 Film Hub North Young Programmers, where it received a warm reception across its tour of Northern cinemas. We were so excited to program the short film, for its originality and thoroughly engaging performance. We’re so excited to see what Bonito gets up to next!’

Casey Shaw, Program Leader Leeds Film Met, Producer:

'Mario Gregoriou’s Uncle Bonito is a distinctive character that showcases great commitment to experimental comedy, improvisation, and originality. Mario's series surrounding Uncle Bonito and his escapades has quickly allowed him to become a recognisable figure within the Yorkshire filmmaking community, engaging audiences in a standout way. His recent screening of 'My Uncle Bonito's Creative Epiphany' at The National Science & Media Museum saw people of every age laughing along with Bonito and of course, going home singing 'Gail and Martin's Song'. In drawing from his culture, interests and love for pop culture Mario has created an icon in Bonito.'

A BONITO BONUS:

Rather than show you moments from Bonito’s actual podcast, Bonito insisted I share a clip from the Sponsor bit he does.
His reasoning is he wants a ‘
warts n all’ vibe,
grassroots style, with nowt hidden, so you know exactly where I’m getting mi sweet cash from'....

which is a much touted revolutionary cooking device, that purports to give the wielder ‘
mastery over meat’.
