ABOUT BONITO
I’d like to tell you more about my Cypriot-Yorkshire Uncle Bonito, who’s had a creative epiphany of sorts.
A little while ago when Bonito told me about his epiphany, I didn’t know exactly what he meant, so I decided to interview him about his experience. And since then I’ve been making a series of tapes about his creative freedom and surprisingly varied life. There’s tales from his rich past, bits of things that he creates and likes, and just a variety of things he gets up to, like:
his time interning at Top of the Pops,
his cash-in-hand dabble in the dark arts,
his brief and unintentionally erotic moment as the face of Cadbury’s Flake (for their Cyprus Branch) in the 80’s,
and how to officially frisk a suspicious dog at airports in Cyprus, and the strange dog-dance phenomenon his cousin has told him about when the rules aren’t followed to the letter….
So on the site you’ll find all these stories and more, in either short videos, audio clips, and artwork. And coming soon, moments from his much-touted and largely unfinished podcast series, featuring things like: Bonito’s favourite cult films, his wonderings about the fabric of reality and infinite connections, and segments like ‘Time Travelling Tastebuds' and many more erratic ponderings with whatever takes his fancy.
See all this as an alternative biography, where we're sharing the kinds of things you might not get to see or know about someone, be they big or small — to help connect with future generations and folks now. And to show how everyone’s story matters.
A BONITO BONUS:
Bonito kindly did a video guide to a zine of mine, that’s about a lost cult animated kinda adult carton from the 70’s/80’s, called Spaghetti Ghost.
It is about a resurrected bit’a spaghetti that returns to life with the power to control the elemental secrets of all tinned foods, and e.g summon soup storms, or raise a really vicious army of undead sardines, to fight injustice etc.
But looking back, it also was tackling a lot of adult themes…not Rudy-Nudy stuff, more like really deep societal issues. Click here if you’d like to watch it and find out more.
